TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Lean's question was more than appropriate for this list, and some days you
get stumped on things that seem like a piece of cake to someone removed from
the immediate situation. As you say, you're entitled to your opinion, but I
would rather come to this list when stumped for creative ideas, suggestions
and feedback on user education and technical communications issues such as
ways to name a GUI element, than read through piles of arguments on whether
to use "important" or "importantly". To each his own, and all hail the
power of the Delete key!

I just think that way too many people use this list as a resource to
questions and
problems that they probably could/should solve themselves, as being an
effective technical communicator. This topic has been bounced around before,
and I am not intending to get it going again. I have deleted such messages
in the past when they talk about inappropriate questions for the list. I
think that people need to take more responsibility of coming up with data
instead of running to the list as a "last resort." There are many more ways
to research information than typing an email.
