Harry Bacheler asks:

Where does one go to get information of 'good' DFD reference materials?

Tony Markatos responds:

My all-time favorite book is 'Structured Systems Analysis and Specification' by Tom DeMarco, Yourdon Press 1979 - yes 1979. It is still available through Yourdon Press.

Next best 'Essential Systems Analysis' 1984 (I forgot the two authors) - available through Yourdon Press.

Harry, many "rap" DFDs as being out-of-date. (They have been around for over eight years - before computers they were used on strictly manual systems.)

They are not obsolete. They are not a technology. They are a methodology to enforce open and honest interpersonal communications in systems projects - the REAL boggie to be overcome in software development! The problem is timeless - and no other methodology/technique is so highly focused on addressing it.
