I'm not sure that this is true in all cases. In Canada, anyways,
there is nothing in the copyright documentation that indicate the
registration has to be renewed, nor any frequency indicated. Like
anything in life, before acting, check with an expert. Contact the
Library of Congress or visit your library and check out what the act
states. If you know someone who deals with copyright law, ask them.

Remember, copyright registration registers the OWNER of the
copyright, not necessarily the author. Since I self-published the
book indicated in my singature line, I won the copyright and have it
registered. The next edition of the book will be published by a
commercial publisher and my contract with them has me assigning the
ownership of the copyright to them (they are a US based publisher).
it will be up to them to register the ownership of the copyright.

I hope this helps clear the waters a bit on this topic that is of
vital importance to any authors.
