Folio is a software product that allows you to create, publish, and
maintain large and complex information bases (they use the term
infobase) of information. The program offers sophisticated search
capabilities, extensive security options (up to +150 levels), multiple
writer authoring capabilities, and many advanced features not found
in most online publishing packages. It IS NOT, however, an online
help authoring tool: it is meant for online authoring of large
volumes o f material.
One of the biggest users of this package is the legal profession.
One company, I believe the name is Lexis/Nexus, has put all the
legal cases decided in the United States into a massive infobase and
makes the information available to lawyers on an as needed basis. If
you've ever been in a law library you know how many pages of material
that represents!!
One of the other neat options available with Folio is the ability to
publish material on a CD and provide the user with a runtime viewer
for the Folio files, eliminating the need for the user to have
FolioViews installed on their machine.
More information is available from the company's web site at
www.folio.com
Hope this information is helpful
