Tony Markatos comments:

There are those who make things happen and those who wonder what happened. Until we clearly identify who we are and what we REALLY do, we are condemned to be the later.

We are not writers; the written word is but one form of communicating technical info. For example, for procedural information (most TW's write procedural info), except at the very detail level; text is a very poor means of communicating. (As Ed Yourdon points out: Procedure is like dance - it defies written description.)

And "technical" is a mystifying adjective - it confuses more than clarifies.

As long as we keep defining ourselves as Technical Writers, we will lack the focus necessary to make significant impact.
