I'd also suggest Visio as a vector drawing program. (By the way - it's now
been assimilated by Microsoft.) The UI is geared for dummies, and it doesn't
give you nearly the flexibility of a real drawing program like Illustrator
or FreeHand, but it's quick and dirty, and the output is good enough for
most publications.

The price starts around $200 for the Sloppy Joe version, and goes up to
about $1000 for the Ultra Professional Yeehaw Enterprise Royal Suite
(UPYERS).
