TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.

The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I think that the "container" you choose (physical or electronic) has a lot
to do with what sort of work you do. In interviewing folks, I've seen a lot
of three-ring binders, and they are easy to make your way around in. I've
never been given a portfolio on CD or zip. For my own portfolio I use a
basic (but smaller size) artist's portfolio. A three-ring binder won't work
to show some of my bound samples, brochures, etc. When I'm showing work that
has been packaged in a three-ring binder itself, like a user manual, I take
a digital photo of the binder/original packaging and include that with
sample chapters, workplans, etc. For my interface design work, I use screen
shots in my portfolio, rather than an electronic copy. I haven't used a
personal Web site, but am intrigued by the idea ... it sounds great.
