TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. Maryland started a statewide telecommuting initiative several years ago and
the department of transportation is now aggressively pushing it for the
private sector. I got the following message recently from the state's
telecommuting czar (see below).
The Clinton administration has been extremely positive on this. Unless
a new administration upsets the cart, the federal government will be
announcing an exciting and sensible "flexiplace" goal in the coming year -
targeting 25% of federal information workers to be working either at
home a couple days per week or at telework centers no further than 30
minutes from home. The Washington DC area has a good web site for up to
date information - www.dctelecommute.org.
