Amen. I wholeheartedly agree. The question begs the issue that it's the
technology that makes the job, the technology only makes the delivery
method, not the job function.

Let me explain.
I've been in this profession for many years. I've seen Form-a-line
tape and waxers and daisy-wheel printers give way to embedded graphics
and laser printers and then laser printers and paper give way to HTML
and PDF.
Through it all, no matter what the delivery medium, the job of
collecting, refining, and disseminating information remains essentially
the same. The minutia of the production edit changes focus from time to
time.
