I currently use FrameMaker. I have used Word successfully in the past for
long docs. Could your experience with Word numbering be a result of the
non-intuitive way that Microsoft implements the feature? When you create a
numbering style, do you use the Numbering|Outline Numbered area to set up
numbering, level of numbering, and indents AND avoid setting any indents in
the regular paragraph definition area? This, I think, is the key to "more"
successful use of Word's autonumbering.
Just a thought, as I said, I don't use Word much any more.
