Then learn them.
Buy a copy of the software (unless he's not serious enought to invest
$700 in his new career), buy a book, spend a couple of weeks with the
software. Now, when someone says "Do you know FrameMaker?", just say
yes. (BTW...this way works, it did for me...but I only gave myself a
weekend and on the Monday, at a new position, was starting to produce
content in Frame)
OTOH...it appears he's looking in the wrong places...probably at
positins for senior writewrs...which he isn't. Half the requirements
I come across for positipons other than entry level require, as their
core, 3+ years, BA, and Word.
