This is a list of our "atmospheric" fringes: can you all let me know
whether you think any of these (and which ones) make up for lower pay?

free lunch every other week
free coffee, tea, and cocoa
flexible work hours
occasional telecommuting acceptable (once a week is the standard)
casual dress
a standard 40-hour week

Love 'em all -- we don't do a lot of telecommuting here, because we are a
smaller startup and doing a lot of training and brainstorming, but they have
lost their glow as "new and exciting." I think we've moved into "so what
have you done for me lately."

What you're offering now is the opportunity to develop skills and a
portfolio. Figure that you are probably now spending 100% of your time
training, teaching, encouraging organizing. I figure new guys (generic) take
about 25% of my time. Experienced people -- maybe 10%.
Can you offer the company more if you are more available? These are the
trade-offs they're really making.
