You've already stated your guideline. Don't capitalize unless there's
a reason to do so.
In the case of a system feature, avoiding confusion would normally be
the reason to do so. If your system feature is named by giving a
special meaning to ordinary words that would otherwise blend
confusingly into the sentence, then you may need to capitalize.
Once you've capitalized a certain feature to avoid confusion,
you may find that consistency forces you to capitalize other
features that are obviously parallel even if the others don't
have the same potential for confusion.
Reminds me of the time that I almost managed to produce a manual
with no special treatment of button names. Click the options
button, click the help button... I could have got away with it
if not for the two buttons called next and previous.
