OK...first of all, let me try to bring my blood
pressure back down....sheesh, you scared me ;)

Actually, you are just writing by the rules; and, as
I'm sure you know, tech writers often have to deal
with other members of the team who don't have as
strong of a grasp on correct usage as you do.

So, what it comes down to is that your usage is
correct. However, if the audience/SME will somehow be
averse to correct usage, than change it to what they
want.

One of the biggest things I've learned about tech
writing is that sometimes you look the other way when
you know something in the document is wrong, but you
let it go to make the client happy.
