Re: Are Zip drives obsolete?
I was pondering getting one, but I thought about writable CDs. Opinions?
I, myself, strongly recommend the writeable CD. The zip drive I had could only hold 100 mg per disk (rather than 600 on a CD), *AND* could only be read by another zip drive. Conversely, if I buy the cheap, non-rewriteable CDs, they can be read by any computer with a reasonably recent (e.g., several years old) CD drive.
With a CD writer, I can store copies of my most important information on a single CD or 2 in my safe deposit box, and can easily pop a CD into my purse if I'm going away. (I would have needed at least 6 zip disks to do the same thing.)
