Mike asked for recommendations for a "tech writer bookshelf."

I recommend "Read Me First: A Style Guide for the Computing Industry" from
Sun Technical Publications (ISBN: 0134553470). The chapter on indexing is
excellent, and overall, it's a first-rate book.
