SnagIt, or a similar tool, gives you considerably more flexibility in what
you actually capture from the screen as well as more flexibility in the
output format. MS Paint is limited to BMP, which is sometimes an awkward
format for some publication tools (I usually avoid it in FrameMaker, for
example).

Although I use PhotoShop, Paint Shop is a good and inexpensive alternative.
SnagIt is pretty cheap as well. Both will produce better results.
