TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Here's a juicy piece of polemics, as if we don't need more of that:
The BuzzWhackery website (www.buzzwhack.com) takes great glee in skewering
fancy obfuscations. One of its latest is "information architect, which I
quote here with all due credit given:
information architect: A hugely inventive and successful way in which
librarians (and a host of other wannabees) have made themselves relevant to
computers and the Internet. An information architect's job is to balance the
needs of Web site sponsors, the users and the designers so that information
is presented in a manner that makes all concerned happier -- and the
architect richer.
Does anybody besides me wonder if we can get away with calling ourselves
"information architects" too?
(At home, when I take out the garbage, my wife calls me her "sanitation
engineer.")
