Can anyone summarize the process of converting FrameMaker files to HTML
through WebWorks, please?
Sure thing, Morgan. This is a very high-level process description, and your results will vary depending on the state of your Frame files, as well as the complexity of the output you want. The simpler the layout, the easier the process.
1. Develop your FrameMaker files/book using Paragraph and Character styles (with graphics imported by reference and limited use of overrides).
2. Create a WebWorks Publisher (WWP) project using the default template of your choice. Map styles that are obvious fits, and the rest you can leave for later development (for example, note styles that use hanging indentations).
3. Generate and view the HTML.
4. Make changes and add styles as necessary. Repeat as needed.
Once you've done all this, and assuming that you use a single Frame template with a high degree of consistency, the process is more like
1. Develop your Frame book.
2. Create a WWP project from your template.
3. Generate the files.
Now, mind you, I've seen projects where the HTML came out beautifully on the first pass and others where no amount of regex hacking could fix the output. The process is meant to be iterative, until you get a solid WWP template. Once that is done, it should be a push-button process.
