TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I see in this maintainability thread an echo of what experienced programmers
preach as a virtue: Make your work easy for somebody else to work on after
you. Programming has an entirely different set of issues about style and
clarity, but in the end it still boils down to "time is money" whether
you're reformatting a spaced-and-tabbed Word document or puzzling your way
through some horrible spaghetti code.

Subject: Formatting, proficiency (Word)
The discussion of bad formatting in Word makes me smile, because I'm dealing
with that kind of work in this job. I handle documents from the QA group,
and they have a history (still being written today, sigh) of using hard
returns and tabs instead of the formatting available in the styles.
