It's like any professional organization; - you get out of it what
you put into it. If I'm going to take myself seriously and expect
others to do the same, I need to MAKE time for theory, to keep up
with what's happening in the industry, and to know what others are
doing.

I admit that I don't have as much time as I'd like to spend on it,
but it's important that I do what I can. The STC helps with that.
By providing constant looks into the field, it minimizes the time I
have to spend by giving me the higher-level view of things so that
I can see the trends that are affecting me and spend my time on
those.

And the networking benefits alone can be well worth the dues. But,
as you said, YMMV.
