A couple of tactics:
1) Lock down simpler docs early on. Get them out of the way quickly.
2) Plan for a week of hell around drop days.
3) Be prepared to move quickly during this week.
4) Secure your technical contact. Warn him/her in advance that you may be
bothering him/her a lot in that last week.
5) Set a publication date where you release the docs. All edits after that date
will be shelved until the next release.
6) Eat more fruit. It won't help you write any better, but its good for you.

When I send out a review, I specifically state on the cover sheet exactly what I want them to look at. If I see them in person (at a product meeting or something) I'll tell them exactly what I write on the cover sheet.
Typically a line like, "Please concentrate on technical correctness of the document. Capitalization, punctuation, spelling, grammar, etc. will be handled by our editors.". (Only I usually write it better than that...)
Just be honest and tell them at what state you think the document is (so they aren't expecting anything more!) and what sort of reviews you want them to give you. Ignore anything else they send you. Maybe it makes them feel all helpful if they can fix your spelling mistakes. I know I'm really annoying and point out spelling., punctuation and grammar when I'm doing a peer-review, and I should be leaving those to the editor as well!
I guess I'm just weird and don't see most of it as any sort of criticism. I'm just happy someone read it. ;)
