John Posada suggested that he accepts the use of passive voice in some
cases.
This is a statement with which I concur.

However, I do try to avoid this construction. To do this, I tie the display
of the dialog/menu/whatnot with its intended use:
1) From the XX menu, click the YY button. When the ZZ dialog box displays,
choose your flavor from the FlavorList.
2) From the AA text field in the ZZ dialog, click the down arrow and select
BB from the menu. This displays the CC popup menu of noodle options. Select
the appropriate noodle for your noodler.
I also try to put the users goal first, followed by the tasks to accomplish
the goal:
3) To initiate the EE utility: From the CC popup menu, highlight DD and
click the OK button.
