I loved all the Bremer books as well as the Hartman book. Bremer is
common-sense and plain-speak at its best. Hartman is great to give you a
starting point if you have to build up a documentation group from scratch.
As a lone writer (who had previously worked only in unstructured groups
needing someone who could follow specific formats in a timely manner yet not
be part of an established tech writing group), I found these books
remarkably helpful. I haven't read the others and therefore can't speak for
the relative merits. You may also wish to check out JoAnn Hackos' books.

Hope this helps.

I was browsing around on Amazon and found these titles. Can anyone provide
comments about them, either pro or con?

"Starting a Documentation Group" by Peter Martman
"Untechnical Writing" by Michael Brener
"The User Manual Manual" by Michael Brener
"TW 101: a Real World Guide" Alan S Pringle
"Writing Software Documentation" by Thomas T Barker
