Not withstanding the excellent suggestions to reword the sentence to
remove the question as an issue, it seems to me that this is one of
those grammatical differences between British English and American
English. The first sentence seems to me grammatically correct and
accurate in American English; the second reads like it is British
English. (Or perhaps I have that backwards <g>.)
