Just wait a minute, there, guys. Let's not go redefining our terms
in mid-conversation here! ;-) GIFs are not lossy; JPGs are. Here's
why.

Whether you lose color or resolution during the original conversion
is immaterial. You can create a GIF with a specific resolution and
number of colors, then edit it and resave it without losing resolution
or color depth. That's not lossy. You cannot pick up a JPG, edit it and
resave it, and wind up with the same quality file you started with.
Each time you run the compression algorithim, you lose resolution.
That's what lossy means.
