I use PNGs for many of my screenshots.

I discovered (accidentally) that when I save Word files as HTML in Word2000
(I am given first drafts in Word, often), that all the pasted images are
saved as JPEG and as PNG (yes 2 copies of each graphic). I was amazed, but
the PNGs look great and have a really small file size. I haven't had any
problems so far.
