When I edited my own work, I set up a sort of writing/editing cycle. I'd write a piece and then let it sit for a few days. In the meantime I'd write some other pieces during the day and edit some previously completed pieces in the evening. I preferred editing my work at home, because the change in environment gave me different perspective. It helps that I've always been able to balance being self-critical with being able to laugh at myself. Some nights, I'd have a good laugh reading my own muddled-up
writing from a particularly disjointed day. My system worked pretty well for the four years that I worked as a sole technical writer. Now, my work goes through a series of <too many> editors.

Cheers
