I know there are no such things as averages when it comes to people visiting
websites. Ranges and stats from your own site are the best indicators. But
regardless of this fact I have 2 questions:

QUESTION 1
Do you know of any published information about how long people stay on
websites?

I know there are all kinds of variables eg people who surf in, and leave
almost immediately but there are people who decide to stay a little while,
sites where there is more to retain them/involve them. Meaningful statisitcs
would probabaly need to be classified in some way.

I guess we are all a bit cagey about revealing this information about our
own commercial sites from our site stats but perhaps someone has tracked it
or collected it somehow.

QUESTION 2
Is there any information about the *proportion of time* people actually
spend reading or scanning content as against scanning a page and immediately
moving to another page, looking at navigation bars, waiting for downloads
(obviously depends on connection speed) etc? That is what proporation of
their time on your site do they spend actually digesting your content?
