And a one-hour lunch besides!

I typically get to work before 7 AM and leave at 3:30 PM. I eat lunch at my
desk, but I don't take a lunch break. Since breakfast is so early, I'm
almost always breaking out the first course of my lunch by 10:30 AM.

I'm thankful that my company has allowed me the freedom to work these hours,
especially now that my husband is a full-time student at a campus five miles
from where I work. We're able to make the 1-hour commute together, and that
cuts our gas and travel expenses in half, plus it gives us two hours of
talk-time every day.

I would love it, though, if I could work from home. I know I would be much
more productive without all of the interruptions and distractions in
Cubeland. My department only allows the hourly part-timers to work from
home, though, if they decide to take their laptops (yep, they even get
laptops) home with them and put in a few hours on their days off.

I'm used to being a self-started and a self-motivator (nine years of being
home-schooled and four years of being responsible for my own lesson plans
really helped with that). I know I would put in my hours at home and meet
my deadlines. I was allowed to work at home one afternoon last week due to
the nature of the project I was trying to wrap up. I made sure I
accomplished what I set out to accomplish, though, so I could come in the
next day and say, "Hey, I made good use of my time and here's what I have to
show for it."
