Interesting ....

I use a "recipe" in my tech writing classes ... what they are given is a
rambling letter about someone's spaghetti sauce and they have to organize
it. I have been doing up to the point that they say "Oh, it needs to be
organized like a recipe ..." and then move on. Now I think I'll let them
progress and then go and ask questions about how they organized it, did they
do more than one action in a single step, etc.

Although this started as an off-topic thread, I think the progression has
been
interesting, and actually on-topic. There's been a lot of discussion about
presenting material, making it accessible, and accommodating diverse
audiences.
And isn't that really a crucial component of tech writing? This has been a
fun
exercise in looking at information design from a fresh perspective.

In an offline reply to another whirler I suggested, jokingly, that we should
start a cookwhirler list. Maybe it's not such a far-fetched idea...
