Re: Translatable Terminology
Is "summary" a good word for translators to deal with? Would other terms
such as "Portfolio Contents" or "Project List" be better? Any other ideas or
experiences?
As Ann suggested, you want to avoid colloquialisms, slang, and trendy neologisms. I'll add to the list idioms,
metaphors, jargon that's not ubiquitous in the environment, and other overtly figurative language. (My apologies to those students of Lakoff that understand the practical difficulties in that designation.) You also want to avoid terms that can have more than one meaning in a given context or that can have numerous grammatical roles. The effect/affect discussion comes to mind as an example.
