Thanks, Andrew, for a valuable set of ideas, especially on the assessment of
the technical test.

We give a writing test in which the prospective employee or consultant gets
shown a
simple system and has to produce a content outline and sample procedure for
a user manual.
We are as interested in the questions they ask as in the designing and
writing they do. Also,
if the writer throws the test at someone we figure maybe he/she doesn't work
and play well with others.
