Someone wrote, "The engineers aren't going to stop improving the product so
you can catch up."

What should happen is that developers should close the books like
accountants do. It doesn't matter to an accountant if this AR or that AP is
done on closing day. They just close the books and run the numbers. On a
release day the developers should do a compile, check it into their
configuration management system, and keep on coding. The checked in code
would be the code for that release. Any other work, code for the next.

Code is not the product. The product has to be complete before it can ship.
But, it doesn't have to ship on the code complete date. These two things
don't have to have anything to do with each other. And, working like this
the coders don't have to sit on their hands. We did it that way at the last
company I worked for.

And, no Andrew, you are a visionary, you are not insane. Insane is seeing
more than two years out. Six months is just vision, not insanity.
