When you insert the image into the document, are you cutting/pasting, or
saving the graphic as a gif file and inserting it that way? I have seen
image loss happen a lot, but usually only when something is transported or
mailed and linked pictures don't go along. You definitely don't want to cut
and paste--it needs to be inserted so it won't float over text and move
around.

I'll keep an eye on this topic. Hope the answer appears.
