As someone with an MA in English Lit., I think it won't make or break you, but
if you've already done the work, why not spend a day or two doing the paperwork?
It shows that you can see a project through to the end. Besides, you never know
when it might come in handy. Most places won't discriminate against you for
having that graduate degree, and some actively prefer candidates to have at
least one university degree (two is better).
If you have an MA and no experience, you're still going to have a tough time
landing that first job. And it won't insulate you from corporate politics or
from having to learn new methods of research and writing. But, if you have an MA
*and* experience, it may help you win out over someone with equal or similar
experience, and no MA.
In my case, an M.A. in English literature helped me get my first job out of
university. It was an entry-level position for an insurance company, and
according to the person who became my boss, the MA listed on my resume is what
got me noticed enough to get an interview. YMMV.
