There's a friend-of-a-friend tale that went the rounds locally about that.
The lass in question got an engineering degree, went to work at a large company,
stayed for several years. She's managed several projects sucessfully. Then a
big opportunity comes up -- a much larger project, higher profile. Her experience
is a good fit, and everyone's happy with her work, but she's still in her early
30's. No-one's sure she's ready for this much responsibility.
She's the only female at the interview, and the only person noticably under 50.
There's a fairly large collection of senior people present. Some of them appear
to be quite bored, almost asleep.
A couple of the others -- led by the divisional manager she'll be reporting to if
she gets the job -- are throwing the toughest questions they can think of at her,
really putting her through her paces. She's coping.
Then one of the apparent sleepers come to, decides he should contribute, so
he asks a question: "Can you type?"
She comes back with "Yes. I can also screw, but I've never charged money for
either, and they aren't in the job description.", turns to the divisional
manager and says, "Next question."
