You *can* open a Word doc in FM 6 (and kinda-sorta in 5.5.6 *g*), but the
results are often not too pretty. BUT, if you're only interested in
migrating legacy/old docs to FM for updating and so forth, I don't see why
not to do this. Once it's open in FM, save as a FM file, and then apply your
template to the file. Then, apply the new styles as needed. It helps to have
a FM template that uses the same style naming conventions as your Word doc,
as you can easily update all, otherwise just make a run through the doc,
tagging with new styles as appropriate.

Bag it, tag it, sell it to the butcher in the store. :)
