NarrWriter suggest giving Mom a paper explaining what a 56K modem is:

<snip>The case of trying to explain 56K or
any computer esoterica serves the point. There can come a time in
conversation when the person on the receiving end of the data feels lost.
Giving a one pager allow this person to digest the material at their own
pace
and in a time frame that works for them. <snip>

...i can see this working perfectly in business, but if i ever even _tried_
it with mom i would no longer be able to type and long lectures about how
she didn't send me to all that schooling to be mocked. <g>

but in business....it's perfect. the receiving person is also then urged to
respond in writing. while giving the sender time to formulate their answers,
it also leaves that wonderful "paper trail" for future reference.
