Dear Anon,

I haven't had time to follow this thread much, except your initial note and
initial replies from David Locke, among others. However, there is no doubt
that there are times in our lives when we need a change. It sounds like you
are at one of those points in life.

You are certainly embarking on a noble profession. Teachers don't get the
pay or respect they deserve, but I do hope you'll find that the personal
rewards of working with young people outweigh the disadvantages. Don't
listen to people who tell you all the reasons you shouldn't go into
teaching; most of them haven't been there, so they don't know what they're
talking about.

As a former teacher, I wish you all the best in your new career. Teaching
wasn't for me, but I left the most rewarding job I ever had when I stopped
teaching. Maybe at some point in my life I'll return to that field and join
you in the trenches. ; )

Best wishes and godspeed--and remember: never lose your sense of humor!!

Lydia : )
