I telecommuted from home for 3 years. I have a special-needs daughter who
required constant hands-on attention, and my employer was kind enough to
cooperate with our needs. However, I made it easy for them by not only
using my home PC, but by supplying my own connection to the Internet. (They
did have a modem pool I could dial into, but since cable Internet was
available I wasn't about to use obsolete technology, even if it was free.)
It would have been nice for them to supply me with a computer and with the
Net connection, but since it's STILL uncommon to telecommute, I was content
just to be permitted to do it. (And expecting to be paid for them to
effectively rent your PC is a bit extreme...it probably would be cheaper for
them to provide you with a PC--one that more likely is much older than your
home PC, which means you'd have to deal with working on a dinosaur for 8
hours every day.)
My advice to you, Bob, is to grin and bare it (with much emphasis on the
grinning!)
