ASP and JSP are not databases. ASP is Active Server Pages, a Microsoft
invention. JSP is Java Server Pages, a Sun Microsystems invention.

They are a means of coding pages to retrieve data from a database. The
database behind them can be almost anything. Whether you use ASP or JSP
depends a lot on what your company typically uses for databases and can
support, and what the back end and mid-tier structure of the site is. If
this techie told you ASP and JSP were databases, he/she is not very
well-versed in Web development.

I would suggest you do a little reading about creating dynamic Web sites and
about using ASP or JSP. One place to start is
http://www.zdnet.com/devhead/stories/articles/0,4413,2665116,00.html on
ZDNet for some tutorials and overview articles on Java Server Pages.

For ASP, try here
http://www.devguru.com/Technologies/asp/quickref/asp_intro.html or here
http://www.asp101.com/articles/wrox/4753/contents.asp. You should also try
the Microsoft site itself, particularly the MSDN section.

I am trying to decide on databases to use on my organizations website. A
techie suggested ASP or JSP. Is anyone familiar with these?
