RE: Where do we belong?? (and SME's again)

I work in a software company with 150-odd employees. We have two distinct
sections: "Development" and "The Rest"( Marketing, Admin,etc.).

There are two of us tech writers, both in Development. The other writer is
attached to a specific Product Development Team and reports directly to the
R&D head who looks after the team. She only does work for that product.

On the other hand, I, along with the Graphic Designers, am a "Common
Resource". Which means that any Project Manager can use my services for any
project. For that period of time, I report to them.

All in all, I'm pretty useful to the whole office. ----- I write brochures
for the Marketing team, Web content for the Web team, and even recruitment
ads for HR <grin>. The good thing about this is that I'm never bored, and
work almost independently. The bad thing is the task of juggling priorities.

Given a choice I'd stick with the developers, since they know what they say,
even if they don't know how to say it well. Or even QA, who seem to have the
same goals as me. As for marketing, atleast in my office, the less said the
better. Of course, my past work in Support makes me very biased.....
