British, from _The Oxford Guide to English Usage_:

The closing quotation mark should come before all punctuation
marks unless these form part of the quotation itself . . .

======My response===========

I'm an American, schooled in America (Southern California). My teachers all
taught me/us the Oxford/Old British way, as Lin quotes above. IMVHO, it
makes logical sense to me. Plus, as a Spanish major, the Oxford usage was
reinforced. Now, I have to force myself to follow the American style that my
fellow TWs use easily.

I'm feeling like I'm the only American schooled in the Oxford/Old British
style. I like it, and I use it unless told not to. Any others out there like
me?

Jenise
