correct - only h-link, not cross-ref. A cross-ref MUST be able to resolve
inside the document - thus masters are the only solution for that one.

BTW: The reference code looks like HREF="mydocument#bookmark_name"

Note that she wants to cross-reference a target in a *separate* .doc file.

Are you sure you can do that with a standard hyperlink or cross-reference?
