For me, what is appealing about single-sourcing is the promised elegance
- by which I mean it's a simple solution for a variety of complex needs.
It's much the same as that other Holy Grail: the perfect template that
has a style for every need present and future, and never needs manual
page breaks or any other individual tweaking. In both cases, the
implementation generally falls short of the promise, but the challenge
of the goal is interesting in itself. The closer I can come to either
goal, the more expertise I demonstrate (at least to myself).

Naturally, these goals have to be pursued without endangering deadlines.
But this necessary handicap only makes the pursuit more interesting.

But will I ever reach either goal? In all honesty, I doubt it.
