RE: How we introduce our profession to others . . .

To those who don't know what a technical writer is, I usually say I write
manuals about computer stuff. "That must be interesting. Boy, it sure is
hot today, huh?" [or cold or wet or windy or ...] Ottawa has a significant
high-tech population, so I don't encounter this situation very often.
When I mention it to someone who *does* know what a TW is, I invariably hear
either, "Oh yeah, I've done some of that," or "Oh yeah, my
girlfriend/wife/sister/neighbour/housesitter is a technical writer at
Nortel/wants to be a technical writer at Nortel/married a technical writer,
I think he works at Nortel."
Kevin, how does this compare to your observations?

digital and flashing 12:00 ... 12:00 ... 12:00 ..."
