Below are instructions that may help you. First you want to create a bottom
edge border and then redefine the style.

1. Highlight any Heading 1 paragraph by right-clicking in the left margin
next to the corresponding text.

2. Select Borders and Shading from the Format menu. This opens the Borders
and Shading dialog.

3. Within the Border tab, select line style, color, and width (thickness)
attributes. (The thinnest line width available is 1/4 inch.)

4. Under Preview, press the bottom edge border button. In the Apply To
drop-down list, select Paragraph.

5. Press the Options button to open the Borders and Shading Options
sub-dialog. It opens on top of the Borders and Shading dialog.

6. Adjust the amount of space you want from the text to the bottom edge
border.

7. Press the OK button to close the Borders and Shading Options sub-dialog.

8. Press the OK button to close the Borders and Shading dialog.

9. From the Formatting toolbar, select the Heading 1 style from the Style
drop-down list. This opens the Change Style dialog.

10. Select the "Update the style to reflect recent changes?" option and
press OK.

That's it. All instances of previous Heading 1 styles should update
automatically. You can now apply this new Heading 1 style to any new
paragraph you like.

This is one way of doing redefining the style to your liking. Another way
is to select the Heading 1 style from the Format/Style menu item and then
select Modify/Format/Border... to open the Borders and Shading dialog.
(Make sure the cursor is at the corresponding paragraph.) Then follow steps
3 thru 8 above. Once you are done, press OK and then Apply.

I hope this helps, please feel free to send me email if you are still having
trouble or if this is not what you want. If you want, I can send you a Word
file with this new style that you can use as reference.

Good luck and have a great day!
