TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Assign your tasks a priority 1 through whatever, figure out your status on
all of your priorities, make a schedule and then start cranking out the
docs. Spend no more than 2 days (and that's a lot of non-productive time)
figuring out your schedule. Don't get consumed by it. Part of this is prep
time is to get a file folder for each priority and start collecting
information about them. Have your superior(s) sign off on your plan and then
go to it. When you have a rainy Friday afternoon, or you finish a task on a
Thursday morning, take a 1/2 day to work on a process document. Right now,
though. worry about changing the existing document. Work in Notepad and copy
your text to your tool so you can focus on the text, if you are like me and
like to fidget around with styles and Word. [I was getting to the point
where I was going to do so!]
Good luck.
