Subject:HTML guru to the rescue? From:Chris Gooch <Chris -at- lightwork -dot- co -dot- uk> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Thu, 28 Jun 2001 19:30:25 +0100
Hi
are there any HTML gods out there who can help with this one?
It's 7.30pm in England and I want to go home.
I'm trying to produce html pages for our web site that include
C code examples, which I want to take direct from source.
I am encountering problems with lines of C code such as;
if a<b and c>d
or
a = <<p->b
because of course anything between < and > is interpreted
as a tag, *even if* (and this kills me) you've stuck any of the
following tags around the code example;
<CODE>, <LISTING>, <PRE>, <Q>, <BLOCKQUOTE>, etc..
(I ask you, what is the purpose of the <LISTING> environment
if it doesn't disable interpretation of any tag except it's end-tag?)
Is there some way I can do this? All I want is to be able to
say something like:
<VERBATIM>For example, <B> is the html tag for bold</VERBATIM>
and have it render as you'd expect. Without me having to escape the
< and >.
Thanks for any help,
